Basia was born in Poland and now lives and creates in Ontario, Canada. She has been burning since 2010 and exploring the art of radial symmetry in many different mediums for years before pyrography.
Being a self-taught artist who loves almost every single artform including chalk pastel, ink, paper crafts, wire and feather jewellery and of course any type of wood working, Basia lives for crafting, working creatively with her hands and making everything around her.
Basia’s passion for nature and the earth has influenced her work in many ways. From choosing reclaimed materials and wood from sustainable sources, donating to organisations that plant trees around the globe to creating designs that showcase the beauty of nature in abstract ways.
She is a proud member of Wood Burn Corner and enjoys every minute of working with Rachel and helping her grow this amazing pyrography community.
1. How long have you been burning for and how did you discover pyrography/what got you started?
My passion for wood burning all started with a bus. The Bass Bus (www.bassbus.ca) is a mobile platform for artists to express themselves through music, dancing and art! The entire inside of the bus was renovated with wood, and due to its permanency, the crew on the Bass Bus chose pyrography to be the artform featured on its walls. Right before they launched this business (in 2010), they asked me to embellish the walls with my art and this is where my love for burning started.

3. What are your favorite tools to use when wood burning (machines, nibs, wood, other odd tools etc...)?
I enjoy using my SSD10 dual system by Razertip for all my artwork. My pen of choice for this system is the chisel tip. I use this square space nib for just about every detail when I burn. I will change it up to a ball nib when I make dots!
4. Do you make any other kind of art? What kinds of other mediums do you like to work with?
I love to craft and experiment with all mediums. If I had to choose only a few mediums to work with, my top 2 would be pastel and ink. I love working with wood and making miniature furniture and accessories. I also love to make things like mushroom hats, feather earrings, sun catchers and digital kaleidoscope art!
5. What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I can hold my breath for over three minutes and practice free diving whenever I get the chance! I really enjoy feeling like a fish.
