Intro to Wood Burning

This is a beginner’s guide to the art of pyrography. We will cover everything from start to finish: safety, wood requirements + species, transferring, and burning techniques.
Supplies
You can follow along using the same design Rachel will be burning. Make sure to size the design to fit your wood slice before you hit print!
What else you need to start burning:
Wood Burning Machine (I will be using the Walnut Hollow Creative Wood Burner and their Versatool). Check out this blog post to see what burner is right for you. And join BURNERS class at 6pm PDT on May 10th.
Wood (Basswood is recommended but any natural raw wood surface will do. Check out this blog post what wood NOT to burn on).
Flow Nib (preferred for beginners)
Sand Paper
Graphite Paper
Embossing Tool or Pencil
Tape
Brass Brush (optional)
Watercolor (optional)
